Our Northwest climate produces succulent produce, but outside of our growing season all locally grown produce is very limited. To maintain a year-round produce service for members we have partnered with a number of organic farms throughout the West Coast that have longer growing seasons than we do. We give our members the option to select what foods they want, based on individual taste or preference of farm location.

We make every attempt to source as locally as possible. We know exactly where all of our produce comes from and we are constantly working to pass on the stories behind the food. With the help of technology we are making greater strides in providing our members with this information and giving our support to local and independent growers.

To us, success means strong local farms and the growth of sustainable, organic agriculture throughout our nation and the world.

Alvarez Farm
Yakima Valley, Washington

Don Hilario Alvarez and his family are living examples of what can be achieved with determination and hard work. Originally from the coastal region of the Mexican state of Michoacán, Hilario Alvarez immigrated in the early 1970s, first to southern California, and then to eastern Washington, where he worked for seven years on a farm in Wapato. He learned everything he could about farming from the owners of the farms where he worked, and finally, in 1981 he rented thirty acres and started farming on his own during his "free time." He started out with very little money and no tractor, and picked up the knowledge he was still lacking by trial and error. But thanks to his hard work, his determination, his willingness to experiment and his ability to learn from experience, today Don Hilario and his family own 120 acres, making his farm one of the largest organic vegetable farms in eastern Washington.

Columbia Gorge Organic Fruit Company
Hood River, Oregon
cogojuice.com

Columbia Gorge Organic is an honest-to-goodness family farm. Since 1989, the Stewart family has farmed 180 acres in the beautiful Hood River area of Oregon. In fact, they were the very first organic farmers in the area. Dad's no longer with them, but brothers Jimmy and Ronny and mom, Cheryl, have kept his spirit alive with hard work and dedication to organic farming, sharing the fruits of their labors and a positive message with as many people as possible! In addition to growing more than 60 varieties of fruit, including stone fruit, pears, and apples, Columbia Gorge makes pure squeezed and pressed juices right here on the farm. Unlike the big guys, they do everything themselves: they squeeze, press, or puree their own fruits and veggies, compost greenwaste, and buy directly from small organic farms what can't be grown on their land.

Originally founded on 40 acres of land organically farmed for almost 100 years, the increasing demand for organic herbs led to the purchase of another 160 acre organic farm in 2006. Today, included among HerbCo's many firsts are its first use in the United States of an herb container made of corn, the first Northwest herb company to implement a food safety program, the first herb company to be certified as a Salmon-Safe farm, and the first company in the United States to use an in-house staff to visit supermarkets to ensure herb quality and merchandising effectiveness.

Stiebrs Farms
Yelm, Washington
stiebrsfarms.com

In 1949, Jan and Zelma Stiebrs immigrated to the United States from Latvia with their two small children, Anita and Jon. It was summer and their first job in this country was picking strawberries and beans in the Tumwater Valley. In 1953, with a big dream and 100 hens, they started selling eggs. Jon and his dad sold their farm fresh eggs door to door to neighbors and friends. They began calling on businesses in Tacoma, Washington and soon had enough business to keep the family going. In 1978, Jan and Zelma retired. Jon and Dianna, along with their three children, Kiasa, Yany, and Ania, now own and operate the family business. Their three grandchildren, Hailey, Abby, and Jacob are now adding the fourth generation's help in the growing business. Now, 52 years since they sold their first dozen eggs, about 70 people work for Stiebrs Farms. Seven of those are family members. They are proud to produce organic eggs, organic beef, and organic feed, all certified 100% Organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

Tiny's Organics
Wenatchee, Washington
ilovetiny.com

Tiny's Orchard is located in East Wenatchee, WA close to the Columbia River in Douglas County in a superb microclimate with weather conditions ideal for growing stone fruits (peaches, plums, nectarines, cherries). This particular location has only experienced frost and/or extreme cold conditions or hail or damaging winds a couple of times since 1979 when they began farming the land. The other orchard location is close to the airport in East Wenatchee and as a contrast in conditions is more ideal for growing apples and pears. Colder nights in the fall help mature and color all apple varieties that have any red color. Temperatures in this orchard generally run 5 to 10 degrees cooler than at the lower river elevation. Tiny's has organic fruits and vegetables and takes pride in growing and harvesting only the finest in local flavor.
